If you are preparing your wedding you will surely have considered whether to do a pre-wedding or engagement photo session.
Perhaps you have hesitations about having this session because you have already images on your mind with fancy couples posing together and you don’t see yourself like that. Or maybe because organizing a wedding takes a whirlwind of decisions for months and you’re not sure whether to spend money on this or not.
I would love to tell you a few reasons why I think it is worth doing these photos, normally, a few months before the wedding.
And … do not forget that you are the reason for all this.
The first reason to do this is because your are the core of this celebration, your love, your connection.. doesn’t it deserve a private session just for you two?? No guests, no rush, no pressure … You’ll have plenty of photos during the wedding day but maybe your mind will be somewhere else! (because you care about everyone and you want to know they are ok, and you want everything to be perfect, right?)
Pre-wedding photos add value to the entire wedding photographic experience. They are a complement, they are the most personal and intimate part of the celebration.
Now imagine those pictures some other time, some other place, just the two of you. With the freedom to choose the moment and the location that is aligned to your story. Dressed as you wish and if you want your dog or cat to be there … whatever speaks of you now. From a new perspective, through other eyes, mine.
Who are you? How it all started? What makes you the person you are when you are together? There are a lot of details that slowly will tell me more about you while I shoot. Sometimes I’ll be closer to listen about your connection, sometimes from a distance, to see how the landscape you chose, the sunset or the wind helps us draw a new emotional imagery together.
On the other hand, these photos can also add value to the process of preparing the wedding. They can be on the Save the Date card design, as a gift for your family and friends and a reminder that they will be part of a beloved celebration. You can also design the signature album with them. I’ve seen guests inspired by your pictures to write more about you and your love story.
Because you already know this: this photo session always helps if you think you’re going to feel uncomfortable in front of the camera on your wedding day. But I can tell you, spending some time doing these pictures with your couple will help you feel more confident, and it will also help me get to know you better so that the wedding day everything will be smoother (at least in terms of photography!).
Finally, it is an opportunity for me as a professional to create the images that I like the most; images that will reach a high emotional an visual level for both you and me.
Because the wedding is an act of generosity, it is a gift for your family and friends.
But the couple’s session is an act of intimacy and connection, so you can give yourself this time, without hurry, without anyone waiting.
I think it’s time to go back to the beginning, where this love was created for the first time, that later at the wedding, it will be celebrated and shared in a big party. It is going back to the emotion of sharing all that makes you want to get married.
So, do you feel like some photo time together?
